Shellie Kay Hinkle
October 16, 1960 — April 6, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Shellie Kay Hinkle, who left this world peacefully at her home on April 6, 2026, at the age of 65. Born in the mysterious town of Roswell, New Mexico, on October 16, 1960, Shellie was the cherished daughter of Jerry Don and Waneta Kay Martin.
Shellie spent her formative years in Roswell, where she cultivated lifelong friendships and began weaving the tapestry of a life filled with kindness and compassion. She graduated from Goddard High School in 1978, and fueled by a passion for understanding the human spirit, she pursued higher education at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. There, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a testament to her enduring commitment to helping others.
Shellie dedicated much of her career to serving her community as a social worker and probation officer, roles in which her profound empathy and unwavering integrity shone brightly. Her life's work was a reflection of her intrinsic belief in the goodness of people and her desire to uplift those around her.
A woman of varied interests, Shellie's love for learning and exploration was evident in her hobbies. She was an avid reader, devouring books across a spectrum of genres, and possessed an impressive collection of movies that ranged from Westerns to True Crime. Her love for trivia was legendary among family and friends, making her a cherished partner in holiday game gatherings. Her wealth of "worthless information," as she lovingly called it, brought joy and laughter to every occasion.
Shellie's heart was as vast as the skies above her beloved New Mexico. She was known for her kindness, nonjudgmental nature, and her ability to see the positive in every person and situation. Her heart of gold shone through in her tireless devotion to her family and friends, whom she supported with unconditional love and care, often placing their needs above her own.
Shellie was predeceased by her father, Jerry Don Martin; her grandparents, Donald and Edith Martin, and Albert and Amanda Schear; and her beloved grandson, Nolan Bryce Collins. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her devoted mother, Waneta Martin; her loving children, Stacia (Will) Weber, Ashton (Robert) Collins, and Cierra Hinkle; her adoring grandchildren, Rilee, Jerron, Avari, and Link; and her dear sister, Janie Davies along with her nephews Kenny and Justin Hartwich and her niece Danielle Banda.
A celebration of Shellie's life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 2609 S. Main, Roswell, NM 88203. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Shellie's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a cause close to her heart, at https://www.nationalmssociety.org/.
Shellie Kay Hinkle will forever be remembered for her boundless love, her generous spirit, and her unyielding dedication to those she cherished. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts she touched.
