In Loving Memory
Shelley Peterson
February 17, 1965 — March 15, 2026
Shelley Peterson, a cherished soul who graced this world with her warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on February 17, 1965, in Maryland, Shelley was a beacon of light to all who knew her. Her life, though marked by a courageous battle with illness, was a testament to resilience and unwavering love.
Shelley was the beloved daughter of Randall and Patricia Coffman, who preceded her in death along with her brother, Michael Harrenton, and her dear nephew, Chuckie Wilburn. Her legacy, however, continues to shine brightly through those she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gene Peterson, who stood by her side through life’s every ebb and flow. Her sister, Lillian Wilburn, and brother, Daryl Coffman, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, carry forward the spirit and joy that Shelley brought into their lives.
With a heart as vast as her talents, Shelley dedicated 25 years of her life as a general manager for Choice Hotels in the DMV area. Her dedication and commitment to her work were matched only by the care she extended to her colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends. Her leadership was not just seen in her professional achievements but also felt deeply in the personal connections she nurtured.
Beyond her career, Shelley was a devoted grandmother, finding immense joy in the laughter and love shared with her grandchild. Her family was her world, and she cherished every moment spent in their company, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
In her private moments, Shelley found solace in the simple beauties of life. She was known for her love of literature, often found with a book in hand, losing herself in stories that transported her to far-off places. Her garden, a sanctuary she lovingly tended, bloomed with vibrant colors, much like the joy she brought to those around her.
To honor Shelley's remarkable life, a private funeral service will be held on March 23, 2026, at 3:00 PM. This intimate gathering will be a time for family and close friends to celebrate the life of a woman whose heart knew no bounds.
Though Shelley has left this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her courage in the face of adversity, her unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to her work serve as an enduring inspiration. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we hold dear the memories of a life well-lived and a love that will never fade.
