Shelia departed this world in the care of Okeena Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dyersburg, TN, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family and friends. Born on April 6, 1951, in the close-knit community of Hales Point, TN, Shelia was the cherished daughter of the late John Elmer and Mildred (Hastings) Gilliland. Her early years were spent in the embrace of a loving family, where she learned the values of hard work, compassion, and perseverance. She grew up alongside her siblings, the late Alice Faye Rose and Johnny Gilliland, crafting cherished memories that would last a lifetime. Shelia's journey through life was marked by remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication. She was a proud graduate of Halls High School, where she made her mark in history by setting a record in 1969, scoring an astounding 50 points in a single game for the women's basketball team. Her athletic prowess and determination were truly inspiring to all who knew her. In her early career, Shelia displayed a strong work ethic and versatility. She contributed her talents to Universal Electric, served as a flagman for Ford Construction, and even took to the open road as a truck driver. Later, she found joy and fulfillment in dedicating herself to her family as a homemaker, creating a loving and nurturing environment for those she held dear. Shelia's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She cherished every moment shared with her beloved husband, Charles Edward Vickery, and her nephews, who brought immeasurable happiness to her days. Her home was always filled with laughter, love, and the comforting aroma of her home-cooked meals. The celebration of Shelia's life will take place on June 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Halls Funeral Home, located at 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN 38040. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Shelia are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of many.
