Shelia iris Thomas

February 10, 1955 — May 6, 2026

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Shelia Iris Thomas, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She departed from this world on May 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of grace, love, and resilience. Shelia was a beacon of strength and compassion to all who knew her, and her spirit will forever illuminate the lives she touched. Born on February 10, 1955, in the warm embrace of Marksville, Louisiana, Shelia's life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Growing up in the vibrant streets of Marksville, she developed a love for her hometown and its people, a love that she carried with her throughout her life. Shelia was predeceased by her beloved daughter Monaisha Thomas and her dear partner in life Thurston Stewart. Though they have gone before her, we find comfort in knowing they are now joyfully reunited. She leaves behind a family who adored her: her devoted sisters, Michelle Davis and Tilley Armstrong, who stood by her side through life's many journeys; her loving children, Regis Thomas Sr., Ayana Stewart, and Cornelius Stewart, who were the pride and joy of her life; and a host of adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fourteen and sixteen respectively, who were each a testament to her enduring legacy of love. Shelia's life was a tapestry woven with moments of joy, laughter, and deep compassion. Her home was always open, filled with warmth and the comforting aromas of her delicious cooking, her way of bringing family and friends together. She found immense joy in her garden, where she nurtured life in the same way she did with her family—patiently, tenderly, and with endless love. Though we mourn her departure, we also celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who taught us so much about strength, courage, and the power of love. "There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts," is the special message her family wishes to share, capturing beautifully the essence of Shelia's enduring presence in their lives. A service to honor and celebrate Shelia's life will be held on May 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at In the Beginning Church, located at 539 S Preston St, Marksville, LA 71351. Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember a life well-lived and a heart that was well-loved. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to cancer research organizations, continuing the fight that Shelia bravely undertook, in the hope of bringing light and hope to others. Shelia Iris Thomas, your light will never dim in our hearts. May you rest in peace, surrounded by the love you so freely gave.
