In loving memory of Sheila B. Holland-Blyther, who touched the lives of all who knew her with warmth, humor, and an indomitable spirit. Shelia was born on August 21, 1960, at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Carlesa and Horace Holland. With deep sorrow but immense gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce her peaceful passing from natural causes on September 12, 2026. Sheila's life was a tapestry of love, commitment, and resilience. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a doting grandmother, and a cherished friend. Her life journey began in Brooklyn, where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1980. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Blake Business School, where she earned an associate's degree in Finance—a field in which she later built a remarkable career. Sheila's professional life was marked by dedication and passion. She worked as a floor clerk and cashier at McCorry's Department Store before embarking on a long and fulfilling 25-year career with The Bank of New York in the financial district. Her colleagues remember her not just for her professionalism but also for her infectious laughter and steadfastness. In her personal life, Shelia’s heart was a wellspring of love and joy. At just 16, she welcomed her first son, Darrel Holland, affectionately known as "Scooter." Her life took a beautiful turn in 1992 when she met William Blyther, her soulmate and devoted partner. Together, they welcomed their son, Dwayne Blyther, known as "DJ," in 1994 and were united in marriage on June 10, 2000. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Sheila’s greatest joy came from her family. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Hayden Holland and Amaya Blyther, whose every achievement she celebrated with delight. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Beyond her family and career, Sheila found joy in simple pleasures, such as playing bingo and visiting the casino. Her personality was a beautiful blend of sternness and humor, qualities that endeared her to all. Sheila leaves behind a legacy of love through her husband of 34 years, William Blyther; her children, Darrel Holland and Dwayne Blyther; her grandchildren, Hayden and Amaya; and her beloved sisters, Yvonne Holland-Moore, Shenna Holland, Sandy Holland, and Tammy Holland. She is also survived by her nieces Carlisa Pringle, Sadasia Pringle, Ebony Carlton, Katrina Moore, and Jennifer Holland; her nephew Larry Holland and his wife Marlene; her great-nephews Anthony and Divine Holland; and a host of cousins, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. A service to honor Sheila’s life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Woodward Funeral Home, located at 1 Troy Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213. The Blyther and Holland families extend their heartfelt gratitude and acknowledgment to the Carlton and Moore families, along with the many friends and loved ones who have offered their love and support during this difficult time.
