Shelia Ann Dirance Johnson
January 10, 1961 — October 1, 2026
Shelia Ann Dirance Johnson, a beloved pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 10, 1961, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Shelia was a Deaconess of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love throughout her life.
Shelia was the cherished daughter of Dorothy May Thomas. She was predeceased by her father, Silas Dirance, and her siblings, Jimmy, Betty Ann, Angel, and Nevaeh Dirance, whose memories she held dear in her heart. She is survived by her devoted Fiancé, Michael Square, with whom she shared a beautiful commitment since their engagement in 2000. They were joyously planning to celebrate their vows this Thanksgiving of 2026.
Shelia's legacy continues through her children: Rachel Bolton, Rachelle Nelson and her husband Mitchell Nelson, Russell Dirance, Gregory Dirance, Glenn Johnson Jr., and Olivia Johnson, Cynthia Carr. Her family was the center of her world, and she delighted in each moment spent with her 27 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Despite having to leave school after the eighth grade to support her family, Shelia's strength and determination were unparalleled. Though she did not have a formal career, her roles as a loving mother and community caretaker were her life's work and passion. She was a dedicated deacon and minister at Joy Fellowship Ministries in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where she found great joy in serving her community and her faith.
Shelia's warm smile and generous spirit touched everyone she met. Her love for cooking, planting flowers, and spending time in her yard were simple pleasures that brought her immense happiness. She was never more content than when surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing stories and laughter. Her home was a sanctuary for neighborhood children, who always found warmth and acceptance under her care.
A celebration of Shelia's life will be held on October 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Jones Funeral Home, 230 South Hollywood Road, Houma, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Shelia's giving spirit.
