Shawn Anthony Pickett, Jr.

July 29, 1985 — June 9, 2026

It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Shawn Anthony Pickett, Jr., a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend. Born on July 29, 1985, in the sun-kissed city of Honolulu, Hawaii, Shawn was a beacon of joy and warmth to everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He departed this world too soon on June 9, 2026, at his home in Champaign Urbana, succumbing to a pulmonary embolism. Shawn's light first shone brightly on the beautiful shores of Oahu, where his adventurous spirit was nurtured amidst the sand and surf. An accomplished swimmer from a young age, he spent countless hours exploring the oceans, his heart full of wonder and curiosity. This passion for the water led him to become a certified lifeguard on the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, ensuring the safety of others with the same dedication and care that defined all aspects of his life. An exceptional student and athlete, Shawn possessed an intellect as brilliant as his ever-present smile. His love for learning and exploring new ideas was matched only by his dedication to building connections with those around him. Shawn's boundless curiosity and warmth allowed him to form friendships effortlessly, transcending backgrounds and life experiences. He was a fun-loving and kind soul, whose presence could light up the darkest of days. Family was at the heart of Shawn's world. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kelly Pickett, whom he married in January of 2020. Their love story began through their shared faith and service at Restoration Urban Ministries Church, where their bond grew ever stronger in faith and love. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, mutual respect, and shared dreams. Shawn is also survived by his loving parents, Shawn and Stephanie Pickett, and his siblings, LaShaunda Pickett-René (Jean-Sebastien), Juanita Gardin (Brian), Zachary Pickett, and Tiffany Pickett (Josiah). Though he leaves behind no children, his legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his cherished paternal grandparents, Charles and Shirley Pickett, his maternal grandparents, Claudius and Frankie Parker, his beloved cousin Tyra Pickett, and his dear aunt Monica Parker. In his professional life, Shawn excelled in both restaurant management and finance as a day trader, navigating each role with the same enthusiasm and dedication he brought to every endeavor. His colleagues and clients remember him as a man of integrity and passion, always eager to lend a helping hand or share a piece of wisdom. Beyond his career, Shawn was a dedicated member and minister at Restoration Urban Ministries Church, where he found purpose and community. His contributions to the church and his community were innumerable, reflecting his deep faith and commitment to service. To celebrate Shawn's life and legacy, a service will be held on June 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Restoration Urban Ministries, located at 1213 Parkland Ct, Champaign, IL 61821. Family and friends are invited to gather in love and remembrance, sharing in the joy that Shawn brought to all our lives. Shawn Anthony Pickett, Jr. was a man who embraced life with an open heart and a radiant spirit. While his physical presence is no longer with us, his light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. Though we grieve his passing, we celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the enduring legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Shawn, you will be forever missed and eternally loved.
