Sharon Ann Pottenger

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Ann Pottenger, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Sharon peacefully departed this world on April 19, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will continue to inspire us. Sharon was born on November 17, 1944, in Frankfurt, Indiana, Clinton County, to her loving parents, David and Martha Yundt, who predeceased her. She was the cherished sister of Janet Rodgers and Patricia, who survive her. From a young age, Sharon exhibited a passion for learning and compassion for others, qualities that she carried throughout her life. In 1967, Sharon graduated from Purdue University, proudly earning her degree and becoming a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. During her time at Purdue, she formed lasting friendships and began her lifelong journey of service and dedication to others. On June 1, 1969, Sharon married the love of her life, Richard “Rick” Pottenger, in Mulberry, Indiana. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning 55 wonderful years. Together, they raised two devoted sons, Brian and Jay, in Clifton Park, New York, before eventually retiring and moving to San Jose, California to be clser to her sons and granchildern. Sharon’s career as a school teacher and later as a secretary in the Dean's Office for the Shenendehowa School District in Clifton Park, NY, reflected her unwavering dedication to education and community. Her colleagues and students remember her as a compassionate listener and a beacon of support, always willing to lend an ear or offer guidance. She was an active member of the Mulberry United Methodist Church in Mulberry, IN, and later the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park, NY. Sharon’s faith and commitment to her church communities were central to her life, as was her dedication to helping those in need. A woman of great energy and enthusiasm, Sharon was passionate about health and fitness. She enjoyed swimming, skiing with her family, running, and playing tennis with her close-knit group of friends. She was also passionate about gardening and cooking. Her zest for life and commitment to maintaining an active lifestyle were contagious, and she inspired many to follow in her footsteps. Sharon’s warm heart and genuine concern for others were evident in every aspect of her life. She was a loving mother, a devoted wife, and a caring friend. Even after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, she continued to support others living with the disease, offering comfort and understanding to those in need. Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Rick; her sons, Brian (wife Kate) and Jay (wife Danielle); her grandchildren, Bella and Ryder, who brought immense joy to her life; and her sisters, Janet Rodgers and Patricia. Her family was her pride and joy, and her love for them was immeasurable. A memorial service to honor Sharon's life will be held on May 8, 2026, at Willow Glen Funeral Home, located at 123 Lincoln St, Willow Glen. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Activity Center through the Sharon Pottenger Memorial Fund at www.alzcenter.org. These contributions will help continue Sharon’s legacy of aiding others affected by Alzheimer’s. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Atrai Willow Glen, Palm Villas Campbell, Lincoln Glen Skilled Nursing, and especially Gwen Park and Angelo Sanchez, Sharon’s dedicated caregivers, for their compassionate care and support. Sharon Ann Pottenger’s memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those she touched during her remarkable life.
