It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shannel Chatto, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend, who departed from this world on May 17, 2026, at the age of 30. Shannel left us quietly on what was her birthday, a day that will forever hold a bittersweet memory for those who knew and loved her. Her journey began on July 17, 1995, in Kenly, North Carolina, where she was born to her loving parents, Jocelyn Chatto and the late John Chatto.
Shannel was a woman of immense kindness and grace, her spirit radiating warmth to all who had the privilege of crossing her path. Growing up in Kenly, she was known for her vibrant personality and her unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Shannel's love for life was evident in everything she did, and her smile could light up the darkest room.
In 2016, Shannel married the love of her life, Paul Kelp. Together, they built a beautiful life over their ten years of marriage, nurturing a deep bond that served as a testament to their commitment and love for one another. Their journey together was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Kallani, who brought immeasurable joy and laughter into their lives. Shannel was a devoted mother whose love for Kallani knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent raising her precious daughter.
Shannel is survived by her devoted husband, Paul; their cherished daughter, Kallani; her loving mother, Jocelyn Chatto; her caring stepfather, Van Nickerson; and her father, John Chatto. She was predeceased by her dear grandfather, John Chatto, Sr., whose memory she held close to her heart.
A service to celebrate Shannel’s life will be held on May 21, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, located at 64 West Apple Street in Kenly, North Carolina. Family, friends, and all those whose lives Shannel touched are invited to join in commemorating her life, sharing memories, and offering support to her family during this time of sorrow.
Shannel’s legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those she left behind. Her memory will be a guiding light for her family, who will carry her spirit with them always. As we say goodbye to Shannel, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, surrounded by the love of those who went before her.
