Shana Washington

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shana Washington, who departed this life peacefully in her sleep on August 14, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on January 9, 1936, in Rome, Georgia, Shana was a beacon of strength, compassion, and resilience throughout her life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Shana was the cherished daughter of John and Mary Washington, who instilled in her the values of kindness, generosity, and hard work. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, her eight siblings, two of her children, and one stepson. Her legacy, however, lives on through her surviving family: her four devoted daughters, Neisha, Denise, Sharon, and Jill, as well as her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her later years. Shana's nurturing spirit also extended to the eight foster children she lovingly cared for over the years. A proud graduate of high school in 1956, Shana's journey of life took her to New York, where she raised her family. Despite the challenges of raising five children, her determination to better herself and provide for her family led her back to college, where she fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse. Shana dedicated much of her career to serving veterans at a local hospital and later found fulfillment as a private care nurse, where her compassionate nature touched countless lives. Shana found spiritual solace and community within the church. Initially a member of Holy Baptist Church, she later became an active and enthusiastic member of Union Baptist Church. Her voice, a treasured gift, resonated throughout the choir until illness prevented her from participating. Gospel music was her passion, and she found great joy in the hymns of Shirley Caesar and James Cleveland with the Gospel Music Workshop of America Choir. Known for her quick wit and storytelling prowess, Shana could light up any room with her vibrant tales and infectious laugh. Her love for children was unparalleled, and she dedicated much of her life to their care and upbringing. Shana's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the power of community. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Shana's memory. May her soul find eternal peace and may her legacy continue to inspire.
