It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Sgt Major Terry J. Bennington, Retired USMC, on 0-00-0000 at his cherished home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 15, 1952, in Bridgeport, Ohio, Terry was a devoted son to the late Robert and Darlene Bennington. He was predeceased by his brother, Tom Bennington, and is survived by a vast and loving family who will continue to honor his legacy. Terry’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and love. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 1972 to 1995, a tenure marked by unwavering commitment and valor. Terry's illustrious military career culminated in his role as the Staff NCO Director of Training and Education at USMC Quantico, Virginia. His career was not merely a job, but a calling that reflected his deep love for God, family, country, and the Corps. He was among the last eleven of a distinguished era, leaving an indelible mark on all who served alongside him. Upon retiring from the military, Terry became a JROTC Instructor at Hermitage High School in Richmond, VA and later returning to Quantico in a civilian capacity until his retirement as a GS- employee until 2017. His love for teaching and sharing knowledge was palpable, inspiring countless students and colleagues. Terry was a man who never spoke ill of others, choosing instead to offer prayers and support, embodying the virtues of compassion and kindness. Terry is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Candy Bennington, whose love and partnership were his greatest joys. He leaves behind his cherished children: Son Brian Michael Bennington of Louisa, Virginia, and Daughter Kelly Moores, along with son-in-law Scott Moores, of Columbia, Maine. Travis Boyd of waco Texas; Sister Michelle Lucarelli and spouse Sam, of Bridgeport Ohio; Brother Bobby Bennington and wife Stacey of Bridgeport Ohio;Terry was a proud grandfather to eight beautiful grandchildren: Gabriel Joseph, Jessee James, Nathan, Carolann, Angie, Haley of Maine;Ethen Boyd, Waco Tx Terry’s family extends to nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces, His niece Crystal Williams and her spouse John of Decatur, Texas, and nephew Tommy Bennington and his spouse Michelle of Gulfport, Mississippi, remember him with love. Nieces Ashley Tuftee and spouse Spencer of Lanexa VA; Nephews Brett, Shan, and Eric , Ohio ;His great-nephews Austin Williams, married to DJ ,of New Mexico (USAF )and Terrance and Austin Williams of Texas, great-great-niece Andie of charles city VA ;Parker of Gulfport Mississippi and great-great-nephews Aiden and Wyatt Allen; His Life Long friend William “Bill” Taggart and all his friends and colleagues through out his career . Terry's work on Earth is complete, and he now rests in the loving arms of the Lord. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors organization, DAV, causes close to Terry’s heart. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Piedmont Hospice, Charlottsville va and the VA Homebound Veteran Care team for their compassionate care during Terry’s final journey. Their support and kindness have been a source of comfort and strength. Sgt Major Terry J. Bennington’s legacy is one of honor, love, and unwavering faith. His spirit, generosity, and dedication to those he held dear will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
