It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of SFC Richard G. (Thom) Thompson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Born on July 11, 1940, in the serene town of Stuart, Florida, Thom lived a life filled with dedication, bravery, and love until he peacefully departed this world on September 9, 2026, in the comfort of his home. A man of unwavering service and integrity, Thom's life was marked by his distinguished career in the armed forces. His commitment to his country was paralleled only by his devotion to his family and community. Thom was a guiding light to those around him, embodying the virtues of honor, courage, and compassion in all his endeavors. Thom was known for his gentle spirit and warm smile, which could light up any room. He had an innate ability to connect with people, always offering a listening ear or a helping hand. This rare gift of empathy and kindness touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Beyond his military service, Thom was a passionate advocate for education and community development. He dedicated countless hours volunteering at local schools and community centers, believing deeply in the power of education to transform lives. Thom found joy in the simple pleasures of life: a good book, a well-tended garden, and time spent with family. His gentle guidance and unwavering support were the foundation of his family's strength and unity. Thom was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Thelma Davis. He is survived by his beloved family which consists daughters Sabrina Thompson and Theresa Walker both of Columbus,GA and Lacy Gardner of Pittsburgh, PA. Sons Richard Lamar and Alvin Eugene both of Tallahassee, FL. Granddaughters Ashley, Talia and Mariah, all of Columbus, Ga. Grandsons Blake Short of Columbus,Ga and Justin Greene of Newnan, Ga. A host of friends, other family members who will cherish his memory and celebrate his remarkable life. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we hold Thom's memory close, celebrating a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished. Rest in peace, our beloved, knowing that you are forever in our hearts.
