It is with heavy hearts and immense gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Sergio Gutierrez, who left us peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on September 30, 2026. Born on July 17, 1953, in Laredo, Texas, Sergio was a cornerstone of kindness, humor, and warmth to all who knew him. Sergio was the beloved son of Isidoro and Sara M. Gutierrez. He was predeceased by his cherished siblings, Antonia L. Mendoza ("Felipe"), Maria B. Vasquez, Isidoro Gutierrez Jr. ("Graciela"), Raul Chavez, and his beloved nephew Raul G. Chavez ("Esmeralda"). Sergio is survived by his first wife, Maria Y. Gutierrez, and his second wife, Sara Huerta, who both remained important parts of his life. His legacy lives on through his children—Sergio Gutierrez Jr., Sara J. Gutierrez, Rolando Gutierrez, and Yesenia G. Albarado ("Santos B. Albarado Jr.")—and his treasured grandchildren, Sergio Gutierrez III, Sebastian Gutierrez, Amaya L. Lara, Briana A. Lara, Ivan L. Lara, and Noah S. Lara. Sergio was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Amirallyst A. Albarado Gonsor. He is survived by his sister Irma G. Chavez, his brother Oscar ("Cynthia") Gutierrez, and brother-in-law Jesus Vasquez. Sergio's passions were as diverse as they were vibrant. He was an avid fan of football, wrestling, and classic westerns, often sharing stories that captivated those around him. Music was another of Sergio's great loves, and he was known for his joyful dance moves and singing. Above all, Sergio cherished his role as a father and grandfather, bringing laughter and love to every family gathering. Possessing a quick wit and a warm smile, Sergio had the rare ability to make everyone around him feel welcome and valued. His knack for telling jokes and sharing laughter was matched only by his boundless kindness and generosity, which touched countless lives. He was, simply put, the best dad and grandfather anyone could have ever asked for. A celebration of Sergio's life will be held on October 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Sanchez Funeral Home, located at 1402 Santa Ursula Ave., Laredo, Texas 78040. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Sergio's memory. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated medical team at Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, for their exceptional care and compassion. From doctors and nurses to LVNs and janitorial staff, each member of the team played a vital role in ensuring Sergio's comfort and well-being. As we remember Sergio, we take comfort in the words of Ecclesiastes 3:1-4, which remind us of the cyclical nature of life and the peace that comes with knowing there is a time for everything under heaven. Sergio's time was filled with laughter, love, and the deep joy of family—a legacy that will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
