Serena Anjolee Sampson

September 28, 1972 — March 15, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Serena Anjolee Sampson on March 15, 2026, at Bayhealth Hospital, surrounded by family. Serena was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, whose spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Born on September 28, 1972, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Serena was the beloved child of the late Jennifer Sampson. She is also predeceased by her cherished grandmother - Mem, her Aunts - Barbara "Barbie" Mooney, Nancy Zellers, Diane Reedy, and Uncles - Austin "Bucky" Buchanan, James "Jimmy" Atkinson, and Harold Engle. Serena is survived by her brother, Jeff Sampson, and nephews, Justin and Jaxson Sampson. Her extended family includes Aunts Jeannette Neff (Mark) and Mary "Pixie" Foust (Harry), Uncle Harry Davis, and a host of many cousins. She was especially thankful for her cousins Tonda Heath (Angelo), Kristine Zellers, Sherry Buchanan (Ronnie), Jessica Heath, Kayla Heath, and Alexis Zellers (AJ). Serena held a special place in her heart for her younger cousins – Za'Myriah, Lee'Ona, and Jayden – and her beloved family dog Quincy, who brought her much joy and companionship. Serena spent many years in the restaurant industry as a server and manager before discovering her true calling in Drug and Alcohol Counseling. She graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from Delaware Technical College- a milestone that her family and friends were so proud of. Serena found joy in learning, constantly seeking to better herself and uplift those around her. She was an empathetic survivor of addiction and a proud member of the recovery community. She became a beacon of hope and empowerment within the LGBTQ+ community and was a tireless advocate for those affected by addiction. She also was passionate about raising awareness to the issue of human trafficking, and working to promote change. Serena was always full of life and grateful for all of her opportunities. She was devoted to her family and friends, who loved her endlessly. Her beauty, kindness, strength and compassion left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered, and her bright smile brought light even in challenging times. Her legacy of compassion and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. Her family is comforted to know she is together again with her beloved Mother, Jenny. A memorial ceremony will be held to honor Serena’s life and legacy at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Serena's name to organizations that support drug and alcohol counseling or advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, causes that were close to her heart.
