It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Selinda Saree Stevens, a beloved mother, nurse, and community champion, who left this world on June 2, 2026, in Martinsville, Indiana, at the age of 60. Born on May 20, 1966, in Martinsville, Selinda's life was a testament to compassion, service, and profound dedication to others.
Selinda's journey in the world of healthcare began after she graduated from Ivy Tech in 1995, embarking on a remarkable 30-year career in nursing. Her commitment to education was unwavering, having also attended Indiana University where she pursued studies in education. Selinda earned multiple certifications, including IDC 9 coding, IV, and PPD certification, and specialized in fall prevention in geriatrics. Her pioneering spirit led her to develop a fall prevention protocol that became the first standardized national protocol, estimated to have saved over a quarter-million lives. Her contributions earned her recognition in the Great American Who's Who directory as a five-star professional in the healthcare industry.
Selinda's legacy extends beyond her professional achievements. She was a devoted member of the VFW for over 35 years and an active participant in the Paragon church community. Her faith guided her endeavors and enriched her interactions with everyone she met.
Selinda's life was characterized by her unwavering passion for helping others. Whether running a five-star drug rehabilitation program from her home for over a decade, raising funds for cancer patients, or supporting individuals living with lupus, her home was a sanctuary of love, courage, and acceptance. Her acts of kindness touched countless lives, embodying the very essence of an angel of mercy.
She leaves behind a cherished family, including her sons Dustin Brinson of Spencer, Indiana, and Dallas Richardson of Brazil, Indiana. Known for her infectious laughter and love for music—especially the violin—Selinda's presence was a source of joy for all who knew her.
In her private life, Selinda found solace in nature, often reminding those around her of the beauty of a sunset. Her love extended to her faithful pets, who brought her comfort and companionship.
A private funeral service has been held at her request, and a celebration of life will be announced on her Facebook page at a later date, allowing all who knew and loved her to gather in remembrance and gratitude for a life so beautifully lived.
In the words of her family, "Selinda's spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She made each of us feel important, no matter where we came from, and her legacy of love, courage, and kindness will continue to inspire us all."
