In Loving Memory

Sebonehur Polinice
March 4, 1951 — February 16, 2022
Sebonehur Polinice, affectionately known as Sebone, graced this world on March 4, 1951, in the tranquil surroundings of Lagonav, Haiti. With deep sorrow, we announce that Sebone passed away on February 16, 2022, at the age of 70. His departure followed a courageous battle with dietetics and high blood pressure, culminating in a stroke that led him to join his cherished ancestors.
Born to the late Michael and Nella Polinice, Sebone was a beacon of warmth and joy within his family. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Rose, and is survived by a devoted family who will forever cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Carolyn Polinice, with whom he celebrated 32 years of shared love and life since their union on February 16, 1990, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Bryan and Bethany Polynice, in a home filled with laughter and love.
Sebone's family extends beyond his immediate household, with his son Oshif residing in Haiti and his daughter Laquita Johnson calling Winter Park, Florida, her home. Additionally, Sebone's brother Michael, cousin Celius Charles, and brother Jedius, along with a host of nieces and nephews, hold his memory close to their hearts.
Throughout his career, Sebone dedicated himself to Lacks Industries, where he worked diligently until his health began to decline in 2019. Despite the challenges he faced, Sebone's spirit remained undiminished. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially his love for basketball, which he often expressed through his fondness for the Detroit Pistons. Sebone was known to attend live games, soaking in the electrifying atmosphere of the sport he so adored.
Sebone's zest for life was contagious. He was an entertainer at heart, a man who loved to dance and host gatherings that were the highlight of many weekends. His home was a hub of joyful camaraderie, where delicious barbeque and spirited games of spades were enjoyed by all. His laughter and welcoming nature made every guest feel like family.
A private funeral ceremony in honor of Sebone's life will be held at Gillespie Funeral Home, located at 1865 Eastern Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI, at 15:47. The family respectfully requests privacy during this time of mourning, as they gather to celebrate a life that was truly well-lived.
Though Sebone has left this earthly realm, his legacy of love, laughter, and indomitable spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear Sebone. You will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
