Saraswathi “Geetha” Gitarani Prabhakaran
October 14, 1948 — October 15, 2026
With profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Saraswathi “Geetha” Gitarani Prabhakaran, who left us on October 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 14, 1948, in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India, Geetha was the beloved daughter of K. Thulasiraman and Gomathi Thulasiraman.
Geetha's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience. She married Rathnasabapathi Prabhakaran on June 5, 1970, embarking on a journey of 56 years filled with joy, partnership, and devotion. Together, they raised two wonderful children and celebrated the arrival of two cherished grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.
Geetha's academic pursuits began in her hometown, earning a bachelor's degree in Biology and Zoology from Holy Cross College in Trichy. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Kent State University, where she earned a certificate in nutrition. Ever eager to expand her horizons, she also pursued computer and programming classes, always ahead of her times.
A passionate dancer, Geetha dedicated her life to the art of Bharathanatyam, sharing her love and expertise with hundreds of students since 1980. Her innovative spirit led her to embrace technology, teaching dance classes online long before it became commonplace. She was also a proud member of a bowling league and had a love for dance in all its forms, including ballroom dance. Her hobbies were as diverse as her spirit: crafting, entertaining, traveling, hosting gatherings, and playing board games brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
Geetha was a humanitarian at heart, known for her signature laugh and her knack for witty phrases. Her loving nature, fun spirit, and empathetic soul left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Whether through her intuitive ability to make others feel comfortable or her considerate demeanor, Geetha's presence was a beacon of warmth and kindness.
A service to honor Geetha's remarkable life will be held on October 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, located at 1411 Annapolis Rd, Odenton, MD 21113.
