Born on February 8, 1940, in Republic, Kansas, Sarah was the cherished daughter of Lee and Elda Daugherty, who have predeceased her along with her beloved husband, Max Picking, her son, Mark Picking, and several siblings. Sarah’s journey began in the small, welcoming community of Republic, where she graduated from Republic High School in 1957. It was not long after that she married the love of her life, Max Picking, on September 26, 1958. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family, community, and entrepreneurship. Sarah, alongside Max, was self-employed with Abilene Rent-All and Associates, Inc., where her incredible work ethic and perfectionist nature were evident to all who knew her. Sarah was a woman of many talents and interests. She had an innate ability to transform any space with her love for gardening and was known for her beautifully maintained property. Her hands were rarely still, whether she was solving puzzles or knitting warm treasures for her grandchildren. Sarah's adventurous spirit and love for travel took her to many places, each journey adding to the rich tapestry of her life experiences. Her legacy is lovingly carried on by her surviving family members Sheryl and Ron Linn, and Sonya and Eric Jones. Sarah was the proud grandmother of six and great-grandmother of four, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. Her family was her pride and joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Throughout her life, Sarah exemplified the virtues of hard work, dedication, and an unwavering spirit. She touched many lives with her kindness, warmth, and indomitable spirit. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. In honor of Sarah’s life, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, a cause close to her heart.
