In Loving Memory

Sarah Adrian Rosa
March 10, 1970 — March 15, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sarah Adrian Rosa, a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, who left us on March 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with ependymoma cancer. Born on March 10, 1970, in Oakland, CA, Sarah's vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to helping others left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
Sarah was the cherished daughter of Jimmie and Carol "Cookie" Rosa. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dr. Adrian J. and Jacqueline H. Durant, and Jimmie T. and Rufina Rosa, as well as her devoted husband, Patrick Cain, and their beloved son, Maxwell Harding. She is survived by her siblings, Daniel C. Neil, Grace M. Neil, and Thomas J. Neil, along with a wealth of family and friends who held her dear.
Sarah's life was a testament to her deep compassion and commitment to making the world a better place. She was a proud graduate of Neoga Jr-Sr High School, class of 1988, and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Spiritual Formation and Ministry from Lincoln Christian Institute, followed by a master's degree in Theology/Spiritual Scriptures from Loyola Chicago.
With over 20 years dedicated to advocating for housing and homeless issues, Sarah's career was a reflection of her profound empathy and activism. Her journey began with AmeriCorps CHART, where she played a crucial role in the recovery efforts at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks. She continued her mission as a shelter director for Restoration Urban Ministries Transitional Shelter, A Woman's Place, and Safe Haven. Her dedication led her to become a community organizer and lobbyist for Housing Action Illinois and a Program Director for the National Coalition for the Homeless. Sarah's expertise as a grant writer allowed numerous small nonprofits to flourish and expand their reach.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sarah was a beacon of light in her community. She served as an active board member of the Champaign County Continuum of Care and Champaign County Healthcare Consumers, and was an executive board member of the National Coalition for the Homeless. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found her spiritual home at the First Christian Church of Savoy, IL, while quietly attending The Vineyard Church of Lakeview, CA.
Sarah's artistic talents were as remarkable as her advocacy. From the age of 10, she was an avid and awarded photographer, capturing the world through her lens with a unique and creative vision. Her freelance work for the Chicago Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and her publications in travel magazines and Getty Images brought beauty and inspiration to many.
In her personal life, Sarah was known for her warmth, kindness, and ability to find joy in the simplest moments. She loved reading, exploring historic places, attending symphony concerts, and cooking. Her laughter was infectious, and her ability to share a good joke and see the humor in life was cherished by all who knew her.
Sarah's family remembers her as a kind and giving person who was always willing to listen, lend a helping hand, and advocate for those without a voice. Her calm presence in times of crisis and her non-judgmental spirit made her a true friend to everyone she met.
As we say goodbye to Sarah, we are comforted by the knowledge that she lived as fully as she could, bringing light and color into our world. A private ceremony will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association Prairie Chapter, a cause close to Sarah's heart.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Sarah will be deeply missed, but her legacy of compassion and joy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
