Sandy Murphy, a devoted wife, nurturing mother, beloved grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in Bear, Delaware, on April 8, 1948, Sandy was the cherished daughter of Frank and Dorothy Sr. Jeandell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Nancy Jeandell.
Sandy's life was a testament to love, laughter, and learning. She married the love of her life, Andrew J. Murphy, on June 3, 1972. Together, they celebrated 54 beautiful years of marriage, marked by unwavering support, shared dreams, and countless cherished memories. Sandy and Andrew built a family filled with love and laughter, raising four children: Heather Murphy, Allison Murphy Daggitt, Shannon Murphy Glass, and Michael Murphy. Her children were her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to nurturing them with love and guiding them with wisdom.
A proud graduate of Blank High School in 1966, Sandy pursued her passion for education at the University of Delaware, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1988 and her Master’s degree in 1992. Her career as a Special Education teacher, elementary classroom teacher, and gifted teacher was more than a profession; it was her calling. Sandy touched countless lives with her patience, kindness, and an innate ability to bring out the best in her students.
Her warm smile and infectious sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Sandy was an active member of Saint Luke’s Catholic Church, where her faith and compassion were evident in her involvement and dedication. Her presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to her community.
In her leisure time, Sandy was an avid watercolor artist, finding joy and solace in the strokes of her brush, capturing the beauty of the world around her. Her art was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and her appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Sandy’s legacy lives on through her four adored grandchildren: Abby and Ellie Daggitt, and Graham and Emery Glass. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and the occasional watercolor lesson.
As we celebrate Sandy's life, we remember her for the incredible woman she was—an embodiment of grace, kindness, and love. Her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ALS Association, an organization close to Sandy’s heart.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Luke’s Catholic Church, where family and friends will gather to honor Sandy’s life and legacy. Details of the service will be announced.
Sandy Murphy will be dearly missed, but her spirit, her laughter, and her unwavering love will forever reside in the hearts of her family and friends.
