Sandra (Sandy) Doig
October 2, 1946 — September 22, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sandra "Sandy" Doig announces her peaceful passing on September 22, 2026, at the age of 79, following a period of declining health. Born on October 2, 1946, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Sandy was a cherished daughter of the late Marguerite (Williams) and William (Bill) Doig, both veterans of World War II.
Sandy was a proud graduate of West (Shea) High School’s Class of 1964. She went on to dedicate 34 years of her life to Southwestern Bell (fondly known as "Ma Bell"), where she worked as a telephone operator. Her career didn’t stop at retirement; Sandy continued to engage with her community by working part-time at American Greeting Cards for nearly a decade.
An avid golfer, Sandy was known for her love of the sport and her impressive achievements on the green. As a left-handed golfer, she celebrated three remarkable hole-in-ones at the Lincoln Country Club, where she also earned the distinction of being the top women's golfer—a legacy she cherished deeply. Her presence will be missed by her golfing friends at both Lincoln Country Club and Louisquesset Golf Club.
Sandy was known for her independent spirit, love of Italian food and especially cats and dogs, traits that endeared her to many. She enjoyed the company of her former colleagues from "Ma Bell" and formed lasting friendships with her golfing companions. Family was central to Sandy's life, and she relished spending Christmas holidays with her beloved cousins in Maryland, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Sandy leaves behind a family who loved her dearly, her cousins Nancy Jane (Rexrode) Sower of Fredrick MD, Doug & Eddie Sower of Austin TX, Becky & John Stalmaker (Sower) of Fredrick MD, Dave & Joanne Sower of Fredrick MD, Beth Chirico (Sower) of Lowes, DE , and a wide circle of friends from different walks of her life. She was predeceased by her loving parents and her uncle, John "Chipper" Williams, who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Atria Lincoln Place for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Sandy over the past four years. Special thanks are also offered to Lincolnwood Rehab Health Center for their support during Sandy’s final days, and to Lee Ann Brigido for accompanying Sandy to her doctor's appointments, providing comfort and friendship.
In accordance with Sandy's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life in Marlinton, West Virginia next to her loving parents at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Sandy's memory are encouraged to make donations to a charity of their choice.
Sandy's warmth, strength, and spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. As we say goodbye, may we celebrate the incredible life she lived and the powerful legacy she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Sandra (Sandy) Doig welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
