August 9, 1944 — May 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Sandra "Sandi" Rowlands, a cherished soul who left us on May 27, 2026, in Montclair, California. Born on August 9, 1944, in Osborn, Ohio, Sandi graced this world with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit for 81 wonderful years.
Sandi was the beloved daughter of Jessie Dillion and Anna Thompson, who instilled in her the values of compassion, resilience, and dedication. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Giles "Butch" Rowlands, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Together, they crafted a life filled with love and laughter, primarily in Upland, California, where their bond grew ever stronger.
Her journey of education began in Claremont, where she attended school and graduated from Claremont High School in 1966. Sandi's intellect and determination set her on a path that led her to a distinguished career. She commenced her professional life at General Telephone, where she first met her beloved Giles. On March 1, 1969, she embarked on her long and rewarding career with the City of Ontario as a typist clerk in public works. Her dedication and skill were evident as she ascended the ranks, becoming a stenographer clerk in 1974, and achieving several promotions. In 1984, she was appointed Executive Assistant to the City Manager, a position she held with great pride and commitment until her retirement in 2009. Sandi truly loved the 40 years she devoted to the City of Ontario, leaving an indelible mark on her community and colleagues.
Sandi's legacy lives on through her extended family, who cherished her deeply. She is survived by her nephews, Glenn Rowlands, Steven Toothaker, and Roger Toothaker, and her niece, Teri Ludwig. Her great-nephews, Glenn Rowlands, Nicholas Ludwig, and Randy Ludwig, along with great-nieces Sara Toothaker and Justine Vazquez, will forever hold her memory close. Her great-great-nephews, Zacc Rowlands and Luca Vazquez, and great-great-nieces, Abbigale Rowlands and Avery Vazquez, continue the family lineage she so lovingly nurtured.
A service to celebrate Sandi's remarkable life will be held on June 17, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Belview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Ontario Elks Lodge, an organization close to Sandi's heart.
Sandi Rowlands was a beacon of love and light to all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She will forever be remembered and cherished in the hearts of her family and friends, as she reunites in eternal peace with her beloved Butch.
