With hearts full of love and reverence, we celebrate the life of Sandra Maxine Wells Craft, who peacefully departed this world on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of her cherished family and friends. Born on December 9, 1951, in Gulfport, Mississippi, Sandra was the beloved daughter of Edward Mack Wells III and Eva Roberta Holton Wells. She was a beacon of love, kindness, and resilience to all who knew her.
Sandra's early years were spent in Gulfport, where she attended 33rd Avenue Elementary, Bayou View Junior High, and Gulfport East High School. Demonstrating a commitment to personal growth and learning, she later earned her GED, a testament to her perseverance and dedication.
In 1972, Sandra embarked on a career with South Central Bell/AT&T as a PBX operator and installation dispatcher. Her colleagues remember her for her dedication, friendly nature, and the genuine joy she brought to the workplace. Afterward, she applied her talents at Copa Casino as a PBX Operator and later served the Gulfport School District until her health began to decline, always bringing her unique blend of compassion and professionalism to each role.
A devoted member of Riley Chapel United Methodist Church, Sandra's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She sang in the choir, served on the Nurture and Outreach Committee, and was an active member of The United Methodist Women. Through her service, she touched countless lives, embodying the spirit of compassion and fellowship that defined her life.
Sandra's love for life's simple pleasures shone brightly in her hobbies and interests. She found great joy in shopping and browsing her favorite stores, including Walmart, Ollie's Bargain Outlet, Roses Discount Stores, and Dollar General. These outings were more than just errands; they were opportunities to connect with others and spread her trademark warmth and kindness.
Sandra's legacy is carried forward by her loving children: Roger Craft Jr. (Pamela) of Huntsville, AL; Charles Craft; Chrishan Craft; and Takeia Craft, all of Gulfport, MS. She is also survived by her brother, Herbert G. Wells (Brenda) of Missouri City, TX, and her sisters, Jaquelyn Johnson (Phillip), Betty McGee, of Gulfport, MS, Shauneille Joseph (Peter) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sabrina Davis of Katy, TX. Her grandchildren, Maya Cole of Ft. Worth, TX; Ashton Legier of FL; Yuri Lizana of Gulfport, MS; Adarius Craft of Houston, TX; Angel Craft and Roger Craft III of Huntsville, AL; Alysha Craft of Wiggins, MS; and Avery Legier, Braxton Burnside, and Carter Fields of Gulfport, MS, will continue to cherish her memory and the love she shared so freely.
Sandra was predeceased by her beloved parents, her daughter Elana R. Craft Burnside, her grandson Bryce L. Burnside, and her four brothers: Billy McShephard, Rheon McShephard, Edward "Mackie" Wells IV, and Greg Wells. Their memories will forever be intertwined with hers, as she rejoins them in eternal peace.
A service to honor Sandra's life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Riley Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 1107 Church Street, Gulfport, MS 39507. Friends, family, and all who were touched by Sandra's gentle spirit are welcome to celebrate the life of this remarkable woman.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many friends, coworkers, associates, and loved ones who offered their support and assistance throughout Sandra's life and during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion are deeply appreciated.
