With heavy hearts and profound admiration, we announce the passing of Sandra Lee Harkins Martin, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Sandra departed from this world on June 4, 2026, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Born on February 21, 1942, in the small, close-knit community of Flora, Louisiana, Sandra was the beloved daughter of Morgan S. Harkins Sr. and Melba H. Harkins. Raised with strong family values and a deep appreciation for community, Sandra carried these principles throughout her life, touching the lives of many with her warmth and generosity.
Sandra shared a beautiful and unwavering love with her devoted husband, James Alton Martin Sr. The two were united in matrimony on November 10, 1962, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that spanned an incredible 63 years and 7 months. Together, they created a family full of joy and laughter, raising two children, Markalyn Williams and Jim Martin who brought immense pride and happiness into their lives.
Family was the cornerstone of Sandra's existence, and she found her greatest joy in the time spent with her loved ones. Her grandchildren, Nick Gallien, Tyler Martin, and Benjamin Martin, as well as her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Gallien, Ethan Gallien, and Ava Gallien, were constant sources of delight. Sandra's legacy extends even further to her great-great-grandchild, Isaiah Gallien, who carries forward the light she brought into the world.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan S. Harkins Sr. and Melba H. Harkins, as well as her dear family member, Rickie A. Williams Sr. Her spirit, however, lives on in the hearts of her surviving family, including her loving brother, Steve Harkins, and his wife, Karen Harkins.
Throughout her life, Sandra's passions were simple yet profound. She found immense joy in the company of friends and family, creating an atmosphere of love and togetherness wherever she went. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
A celebration of Sandra's life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home, located at 848 Keyser Ave., Natchitoches, Louisiana 71457. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the remarkable legacy that Sandra leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, an organization close to Sandra’s heart, reflecting her lifelong commitment to caring for others.
Sandra Lee Harkins Martin will be remembered for her boundless love, her unwavering commitment to family, and the joy she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light of love and compassion.
