Sandra Jernigan Pope

Sandra Jernigan Pope, a beacon of love and compassion, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living, leaving behind a legacy of grace and kindness that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to know her. Born on November 28, 1944, in Sampson County, NC, Sandra was a cherished daughter of the late Allison Britt Jernigan and Marvin Jernigan.
Sandra's life was a testament to patience, understanding, and unyielding love. As a graduate of Midway High School's class of 1963, she embarked on a career that mirrored her dedication and hard work. Sandra served as a secretary and administrative assistant at Beaunit Textiles, later known as WestPoint Pepperel, where she was admired for her steadfastness and diligence. Her career continued as a Benefits Administrator at Mary Gran Nursing Home, from which she retired in November 2022, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and compassion.
In 1974, Sandra married the love of her life, Preston Pope. Together, they built a family rooted in love and faith. Sandra was predeceased by her beloved husband, Preston, her cherished daughter Wendy Sinclair, stepson Terry Pope, and son-in-law Charles Smith. She is survived by her devoted daughter Sherry Sinclair and her husband Scott Holderness, her loving stepdaughter Tammy Smith, and her adoring grandchildren Terry Smith, Amanda Underwood, Katherine Holderness, and Elizabeth Holderness. Sandra's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren Maddison Vann, Nelson Vann, Zoie Underwood, Dawson Smith, Drake Smith, Davis Smith, and Hailey Smith, who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and care.
Sandra was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Clinton, NC, where her faith was a guiding force in her life. Her quiet strength and servant heart were evident to all who knew her. She was known for her avid love of reading, her green thumb in the garden, and her natural inclination to take care of others, reflecting her genuine interest and care for people around her.
Sandra's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her long-standing friends and the compassionate staff and residents of Rolling Ridge, whom Sandra and her family have come to consider as extended family. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church general fund, Roanoke FWB Church general fund, or St. Jude's, to honor Sandra's generous spirit and dedication to service.
Sandra Jernigan Pope's legacy is one of love, faith, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of service and devotion, and she will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
