It is with profound sadness and gentle gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Samuel Shelby, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and esteemed community member. Samuel passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in the comfort of his home in McAlester, Oklahoma, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 68 years old. Samuel Shelby was born on October 12, 1957, in the close-knit town of Boley, Oklahoma, to the late Constance and Joe Shelby. He grew up surrounded by the warmth and love of family, values that he cherished and carried with him throughout his life. Samuel's life was marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. At the tender age of 18, driven by a deep sense of duty and purpose, Samuel enlisted in the United States Army. During his service, he pursued higher education, ultimately earning a master’s degree in engineering and business. These accomplishments laid the foundation for his future endeavors, including the opening of his own dealership in McAlester, where he became a respected figure in the local business community. On January 23, 1980, Samuel married the love of his life, Gladys, in McAlester, Oklahoma. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising four beautiful children, who were his pride and joy. Samuel is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Gladys; his daughter, Angeline, and her husband, Michael; his son, Dock Shelby, and partner; and his daughter, Chandra Ashcraft, and her husband, Marcus Ashcraft. He also leaves behind four treasured grandchildren: Lyric Shelby, Terrance Shelby, Malachi Wrice, Domonique Wrice, and Avion Simon, who were the light of his life. Samuel is predeceased by his parents, Joe and Constance Shelby, and his son, Samuel Shelby Jr., whom he missed dearly and is now lovingly reunited with. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to McAlester Regional Hospital and Traditions Home Health for their unwavering support, love, and comfort during this difficult time. Your care and compassion have been a beacon of light for our family. A service to celebrate Samuel's life will be held on April 29, 2026, at 9:30 AM at Frink Baptist Church, located at 4121 Frink Rd, McAlester, OK 74501.
