Samuel E. Trask Jr

Samuel E. Trask Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born on September 21, 1946, in Chicago, IL. He departed this world peacefully at home on August 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Samuel leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Samuel was the cherished son of the late Sam and Pearline Trask. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Leonard ("Tuffy") Trask, and his first wife, Mary F. Trask. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Verlene, with whom he shared a union grounded in love and faith. Together, they raised a family that was the center of his world. Samuel was a proud father to Venice C. Trask, Emanuel E. Trask, NaKie Trask (Belinda), Samuel D. Trask, LaShun D. Lewis, and Corey Lewis (Keisha). He was a treasured grandfather to Thomas L. Chapman, Gendell R. Chapman, Linda J. Chapman, Telizza C. Chapman, Coreon J. Lewis (Leonela), Destiny B.V. Trask, Kyree J. Lewis, Kemari J. Lewis, Chyne J. Lewis, Je'sus A. Trask, Edward J. Trask, and Nakie Trask Jr. (Dahlia). His legacy extends to his great-grandchildren: Gen'niyah, Gen'marion, Skylar, Eden, Gen'kari, Kenai, Tanylah, Nathaniel, Naomi, Coreon Jr., and Milani. Samuel is also survived by his sisters Cathy Trask and Michelle M. Isabell (Lamar), his brother Sylvester Michael Trask (Freddie), and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A graduate of Dunbar High School in Chicago, Samuel was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1986. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was a recipient of the Bronze Star for heroism during the Vietnam War. His unit's valor was further recognized with The President Unit Citation. Deacon Trask lived a life filled with faith and dedication, being a steadfast member of St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church of Deliverance for over 40 years. Deacon Trask shared a deep bond with his church community, continually offering his kindness and support. Known for his warm and welcoming smile, Samuel was always ready to help others at a moment’s notice. For example, he utilized his professional CDL skills and love for driving to transport family and friends around town. Samuel was always willing to pick up and drop off any family guests from their desired locations. Rest assured "Sarge" will be there at least 2 hours ahead of time, like it or not! Samuel had a keen respect for timeliness. Now don't forget about the 5 P's, Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance, Samuel would say as he always mapped out every trip in advance to guarantee he was never late. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of many. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as reading the Bible with his devoted wife, Verlene and watching films like "Tuskegee Airman," "Rambo," and "RoboCop." He prided himself on acknowledging historical events especially that of African American History.
