Samuel Douglas, Jr.

Samuel Douglas, Jr. was born on May 31, 1957, to the late Savannah Mae Rogers and Samuel Douglas, Sr., in Harlem, NY. He was the third son from this union, 'the baby'; affectionately known as Tulu. His childhood years were spent with family growing up in Harlem. He attended the local neighborhood schools. Sam was mischievous... always getting into something. He was a happy child and often spoke of the pigeons he would fly from the roof of his house. He attended City College in Harlem with a liberal arts focus. One of his first jobs was as a parking attendant. In 1987, Sam became employed with NYC Transit Authority as a Bus Operator. Sam was also a Mason with the Prince Hall Lodge at 155th Street, NYC. On September 27, 1991, Sam became the proud father to a son, Chasani Jordan. At the mere mention of his name, Sam would light up! He adored his son and was indeed a proud father. He spent time taking Chasani tailgating yearly. He introduced his son to chess and to golf so that he “would always be a step ahead.” Sam wanted to make sure Chasani could hold his own when he became a big executive. A major turn in Sam's life came in 1996, when he met Susan. After two years of 'courting' the couple surprised family and friends with a midnight wedding on December 5, 1998. Their marriage was full of love and lots of laughter. They travelled the Caribbean and simply enjoyed each other. Susan often refers to Sam as her laughter, her funny and her honey! Her Ride or Die! He was charming and had an infectious and affectionate smile. He loved music and was always the life of the party. Sam was an avid reader, and he loved to debate controversial topics. Sam faced difficult health challenges. He was baptized and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. With the steadfast love and devotion of his wife, Susan, Sam persevered until our Father called him home. He will remain forever in our hearts, and we are grateful that God allowed our paths to cross, even if only for a little while. Sam was predeceased by his brother Butch. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Susan; his son, Chasani; bonus son, Kai(Kristen); brother, Dennis (Ludell); brothers-in-law, Byron, Carl (Linda); grandsons by marriage, Kalen, Kade, Karson, Kameron; niece, KiKi; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends and acquaintances. Rest peacefully, dear Sam, in the arms of eternal love… until we meet again.
