Sammy Lee "Sam" Murphy, a cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2026. Born on June 30, 1945, Sam was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who knew him. His life was a testament to resilience, humor, and an unwavering commitment to his family and faith. Sam was the beloved son of the late Ebbie Lee and Esther Benfield Murphy. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Malinda Murphy, and his sister, Pamela Atwood Painter. Despite these profound losses, Sam remained a pillar of strength and joy to his surviving family members, including his children Angie Murphy Davis, Shannon Campbell (Melvin), and Laura Hollar (Steven). He was a proud grandfather to Jeremiah Driscoll (Paige), Rebekah Austing (Red), Jeff Davis (Ashley), Scott Davis (Amanda), Mary Feathers, Samuel Feathers, Christopher Campbell, Sydney Hollar, and Bethany Hollar. His legacy continues through his nine great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his love of life and laughter. Sam attended Belmont High School and graduated from Madison Mayodan High School, laying the foundation for a successful career with the Gaston Housing Authority, where he dedicated over 35 years of service. His professional life was marked by integrity and a commitment to improving the lives of others. A devoted member of Ridgeview Baptist Church, Sam found joy in serving his community. He contributed his talents to building maintenance and groundwork, sang in the choir, and served as the Sunday School Treasurer. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, and his dedication to his church family was evident in all he did. Sam had a zest for life that was infectious. He loved food, especially treats like Krispy Kreme and Little Debbie, and was always eager to explore new culinary delights. A lover of nature, he found peace in feeding wildlife and cherished the simple joys of life. Known for his ability to make light of tough situations, Sam's humor and gentle spirit brought comfort and joy to those around him. A memorial service to honor Sam's life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Ridgeview Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Sam's generous and caring spirit. Sammy Lee "Sam" Murphy will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
