Salvador, affectionately known to many as "Sal," peacefully departed this world on May 8, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 18, 1946, in the warm embrace of El Paso, Texas, Salvador was the cherished son of Salvador and Magdalena Mendez, who preceded him in death. From a young age, Salvador's life was imbued with a vibrant spirit and a natural curiosity that would guide him through many endeavors. Salvador proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, where he fought valiantly during the Vietnam War. His experiences in the military shaped his life, instilling in him a profound sense of duty, resilience, and camaraderie that he carried with him throughout his life. After his military service, Salvador embarked on a long and fulfilling career with the railroad, dedicating more than 35 years to the industry. His colleagues knew him as a diligent and dependable worker, a testament to his commitment and integrity. Beyond his professional achievements, Salvador was a man of many talents and passions. His love for art and craftsmanship found expression in his work as an avid artist and woodworker. With his hands, he transformed simple materials into beautiful creations, each piece a reflection of his creativity and attention to detail. Salvador was a man of warmth and joy, known for being quick with a joke and a smile. His humor was infectious, bringing light and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was also a man of immense generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone he met. At the heart of Salvador's life was his family, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Gloria, whose partnership and love were the cornerstones of his life. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising four wonderful children: Monica, Erika, Michael, and Veronica. Salvador's legacy continues through his cherished grandsons, Zed and Darrion, and his great-granddaughter, Hekairy, who brought him endless joy and pride. In honoring Salvador's life, we remember a man whose spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and kindness—a testament to a life richly lived.
