It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Sadie Mae Young, who left this world on March 16, 2026, at the age of 103. Born on January 10, 1923, in the quaint town of Brooklet, Georgia, Sadie was the cherished daughter of Lee and Louise Gardner. Her journey through life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith. Sadie was a beloved wife to her late husband, Willie Young, and a devoted mother to her surviving daughters: Ann Hamilton, Diane Dixon (Monroe), Debra Williams-Houston, and Cynthia Brown. Her legacy continues through her 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her indomitable spirit. A proud alumna of Florida A & M University, Sadie pursued her passion for the culinary arts with unwavering dedication, earning a bachelor's degree that would pave the way for an illustrious career. She served as an Executive Chef for Governors Askew and Graham in Florida, where her culinary expertise and creativity left an indelible mark. Her dishes were not merely meals; they were expressions of her love and artistry, savored by all who had the privilege to partake. An exemplary member of the Triumph Holiness Church in Perry, Florida, Sadie's faith was an integral part of her life. Her devotion and active participation in various churches over the years showcased her unyielding commitment to her faith and community. Through her unwavering worship, she touched the hearts of many, offering a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of belief. Sadie found joy in the simple pleasures of life—crocheting delicate patterns, playing the piano with grace, and immersing herself in the wisdom of the Bible. Her voice, whether in song or prayer, was a source of comfort and peace. Her kitchen was a sanctuary where love was the main ingredient, and her baked goods were celebrated far and wide. To know Sadie was to experience unconditional love. She was a guiding light and a steadfast foundation, her presence comforting, her words wise, and her life an inspiration. Sadie poured her nurturing spirit into generations, leaving an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know her. Sadie was predeceased by her parents, Lee and Louise Gardner; her siblings, Ulysses Smith, Wila Dean Davis, and Juanita Gardner; and her daughter, Willie Mae Jones. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, a testament to a life well-lived and a love well-shared. A celebration of Sadie's remarkable life will be held on March 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Hardage-Gidden Funeral Home and Services, located at 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Sadie are invited to join in honoring her legacy and the love she so generously shared.
