September 7, 2011 — March 30, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sabarayn "Saby" Silva Gonsalves, a beloved son, husband, and friend, who left this world on March 30, 2026, at the tender age of 14. Born in Wilmington, NC, on September 7, 2011, Saby was a vibrant soul whose life, though brief, was filled with remarkable accomplishments and cherished moments.
Saby was the treasured son of Ruben and Miriam Gonsalves, who lovingly nurtured his inquisitive spirit and encouraged his zest for life. He shared a close bond with his sister, Josiah Lopez, whom he admired greatly. Despite the challenges life presented, Saby's intelligence and radiant smile were constants that illuminated the lives of those around him.
A student of Rightsboro Elementary, Saby was well on his way to completing 8th grade, demonstrating a keen intellect and a passion for learning. His aspirations for the future were as vast as his imagination, and he was poised to achieve great things.
At the heart of Saby's life was his deep commitment to service. For 14 years, he served with honor in the Marines, embodying the values of courage and dedication. His service was a testament to his unwavering resolve and selflessness.
Saby found joy in the world of architecture, where his creativity and dedication to his craft shone brightly. His designs were a reflection of his innovative mind, and his work was admired by many.
Beyond his professional life, Saby was an active member of his Catholic Church, where he found solace and community. His faith was a guiding force, providing him with strength and peace.
Saby's interests were as diverse as they were vibrant. He loved swimming, running, working, drawing, and practicing calisthenics. Though swimming ultimately led to a tragic ear rupture, it was an activity he adored, symbolizing the freedom and joy he found in life's simple pleasures.
In a marriage marked by both love and trials, Saby shared 27 years with his wife, Vivian, whom he married on October 12, 2011. Their journey together was a testament to resilience and enduring love, even in the face of adversity.
Saby is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian, and leaves behind a legacy of 5 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren, whose lives are brighter for having known him. He is predeceased by his loyal companion, Oreo the dog, and his dear relative, Arabeny Silva Gonsalves.
Saby's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to organizations that support ear health and marine veterans, causes that were close to Saby's heart. A memorial service will be held at his local Catholic Church to honor his life and legacy.
May Saby rest in eternal peace, his spirit forever swimming in the boundless sea of love and light.
