January 1, 1931 — May 8, 2026

Ruth Megill Worth, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on May 8, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on January 1, 1931, in Neptune Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey, Ruth was the cherished daughter of Calvin Henry Megill and Ruth Mae Frazee Megill. Ruth's early years were spent in New Jersey, where she laid the foundations of a life filled with love, devotion, and service. She moved to Long Beach, California, where she graduated from Wilson High School in 1948. It was here that she met Arthur Jerome Worth, whom she married on September 3, 1962. Together, they raised two daughters, Loretta and Cheryl, in a home filled with laughter, learning, and love. Ruth's career path reflected her affinity for numbers, working initially with Servco Oil Tool Company and General Telephone Company. Her dedication to her family prompted a temporary pause in her career, but she returned to the workforce later at Long Beach City College in accounting, where she was valued for her meticulous nature and cheerful demeanor. Ruth's life was a testament to her faith and community spirit. Her commitment to church was evident in her long-term memberships at North Long Beach Brethren, Rogue Valley Community Church, and most recently Evans Valley Bible Church. Her faith was her guiding light, and she was known for her willingness to offer a listening ear and godly advice, serving wherever needed. A woman of many talents and interests, Ruth was an avid knitter, crafting elaborate Christmas stockings that became cherished family heirlooms. Her love of gardening was evident in her stunning rose gardens, and she found great joy in participating in the Garden Club and Red Hat Society functions. Ruth's vibrant personality shone through in her enthusiasm for activities like bunko groups and PTA, and she was a dedicated member of the Christian Women’s Club and Camp Fire Girls. Ruth's greatest joy came from the friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Her warm smile, twinkling eyes, and infectious laughter made everyone around her feel welcome and valued. She lived by the adage, "to make a friend, you have to be a friend," and her life was a rich tapestry of deep, meaningful relationships. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, her brother Eugene Megill, her sister Stephanie Harp Krohn, her devoted husband of 43 years, Arthur Jerome Worth, and her later-in-life partner, David Westfall. She is survived by her loving daughters Loretta Shouldis and Cheryl (Michael) Hayman, and her adored grandchildren Mariah and Aaron Shouldis, and Nicholas and Sage Hayman. Though her time with them has ended, her love and legacy continue through them. In her memory, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization that reflects her lifelong commitment to caring for others. Ruth Megill Worth lived a life rich in faith, family, and friendship. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts as a beacon of love, grace, and unwavering faith.
