Ruth Louise Miller

October 10, 1930 — May 26, 2026

It is with heavy hearts yet grateful spirits that we announce the passing of Ruth Louise Miller, a beacon of light and love, who departed this world peacefully on May 26, 2026, after a long illness. Ruth, affectionately known as "Ruthiebelle," was born on October 10, 1930, in the quaint town of Shelburne, Massachusetts, to the late Roy Alonzo Hicks and Ethel Mae (McDonald) Hicks. Ruth's early years in Shelburne were marked by the deep bonds she shared with her family, including her beloved brothers Ernest, Norman, and Robert Hicks, and sister Ruby Maynard. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life were evident from a young age, and she graduated from Charlemont High School in 1948 with a heart full of dreams and a mind eager for adventure. In 1955, Ruth embarked on one of her greatest adventures, marrying her soulmate, David Miller, on February 26. Together, they crafted a life rich in love, laughter, and family, spanning 47 beautiful years until Dave's passing. Their union was blessed with three devoted sons, Russell, Bruce, and Douglas, who, along with their wives Susan, Carole, and Lynda, continued the legacy of love and warmth Ruth and Dave nurtured. Ruth's professional life as a bookkeeper showcased her keen intellect and meticulous nature, while her personal life was a testament to her boundless compassion and community spirit. Her involvement in numerous organizations—from serving as a PTA president in Rialto, CA, to volunteering with Meals on Wheels and teaching Sunday School—demonstrated her unwavering commitment to service and her faith. A woman of diverse interests, Ruth was passionate about studying the Bible, reading biographies and poetry, and reveling in the beauty of nature, often attempting to tame it in her garden. She gathered friends and family for card games and joyful gatherings, her laughter ringing like music. She indulged in mint chip ice cream with the same fervor she approached life—with gusto and delight. Ruth's legacy is carried forward by her loving sons and daughters-in-law, her four cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Sara, and Amanda, and her seven great-grandchildren, Loughlan, George, Audrey, Evan, Blake, Ellie, and Bentley, all of whom she adored deeply. Her dear friends Joan Duncan and Jeanne Boynton will also hold her memory close, remembering a woman who never met a stranger and brought joy to all she encountered. A celebration of Ruth's life will take place on June 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the J Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, continuing Ruth's legacy of kindness and care for those in need. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Well-more of Daniel Island and Livewell services for their loving support during Ruth's final days. Ruth Louise Miller's life was a testament to love, faith, and the joy of human connection. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, embraced by the grace of her beloved Jesus and reunited with her dear Dave and family who preceded her.
