Ruth Lee Hayes
February 4, 1932 — April 22, 2026
With profound sadness and deep respect, we announce the passing of our beloved Ruth Lee Hayes, a woman whose life was a testament to unwavering love, kindness, and resilience. Ruth departed this world peacefully on April 22, 2026, at the remarkable age of 103, in the comforting embrace of family and friends.
Born on February 4, 1923, in the vibrant city of Montgomery, Alabama, Ruth was the cherished daughter of Charles and Joann Blackwell. From a young age, Ruth embodied a spirit of compassion and determination, qualities she inherited from her parents and carried throughout her life. Her early years in Montgomery were filled with joy and learning, shaping the strong values and caring nature that became her life's hallmark.
In her early twenties, Ruth embarked on a new chapter by moving to Ohio, a place where she would weave a tapestry of love and community. It was here she met the love of her life, John Michael Hayes. Together, they built a home that became a sanctuary of warmth and laughter. As a devoted wife and mother, Ruth's heart overflowed with pride and love for her eight children: Michael, Jeffrey, John Jr., Beanie, Veronica, Cathy, Creola, and Gloria. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support created a foundation of love upon which her family thrived.
Ruth's legacy extends far beyond her immediate family, as she was a proud grandmother to 23 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren. Her home was a haven of joy, often filled with the delightful aroma of her famous sweet potato and peach desserts, which she lovingly prepared for all who visited. Her baking was just one of the many ways she expressed her boundless love.
Beyond her family, Ruth was known for her gentle spirit and kind heart. As a talented seamstress, she worked diligently to support her family, while also offering her skills to friends and neighbors. Her creations were not just garments but pieces of art that reflected her dedication and meticulous care.
Though Ruth endured the profound loss of her parents and four of her beloved children, her strength and faith carried her through life's challenges. She remained a beacon of hope and love, inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Ruth's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, yet her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her surviving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless friends and community members touched by her grace. Her life was a beautiful symphony of love, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
As we bid farewell to Ruth, let us celebrate her extraordinary life and cherish the precious moments we shared. May her legacy of love and kindness continue to blossom in our hearts, reminding us always of the beautiful woman we were blessed to know.
Rest in peace, dear Ruth Lee Hayes. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
