Ruth Katherine Jones

Ruth Katherine Jones, a cherished soul who touched the lives of many, peacefully passed away on September 4, 2026, after a long illness, lovingly surrounded by her family. Born on July 26, 1938, in Charleston, West Virginia, Ruth's life was a testament to unwavering love, dedication, and service to her community and family. Ruth was welcomed into the world by her devoted parents, Millard F. and Sallie V. Ealey. Her life's journey was shared with her beloved husband, Harold Kenneth Jones, and her siblings, Mary I. White and Charles M. Ealey. Her legacy is carried forward by her children, Tonya R. (Dwayne) Booker of Charleston, WV, and her adoring grandchildren, Da'von of Dallas, TX, and Darius and DaSheya Booker of Charleston, WV. Ruth is also survived by her loving sisters, Janie Richmond of Bronx, NY, and Madeline Ealey of Cedar Grove, WV. Ruth's educational journey began at the Booker T. Washington High School in London, WV, and she graduated from Cedar Grove High School following the integration of the schools. Her thirst for learning led her to complete cosmetology school in Bronx, NY, and earn a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia State College. Ruth's professional life was marked by dedication and service. She began her career at Stop and Shop, worked as a cosmetologist, and served as a telephone operator for AT&T in Bronx, NY. Her greatest professional contribution was as an elementary school teacher in the Kanawha County School District at Cedar Grove Community School, where she inspired young minds for over 30 years. A long-standing member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, Ruth's faith was a guiding light in her life. She served diligently as a choir member, church treasurer, missionary society member, and trustee board member. Ruth was also an integral part of the Washington High Alumni Association, serving as secretary on the Executive Board. Upon moving to Rand, WV, she continued her spiritual journey at Abundant Life Ministries Church. Ruth found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She cherished moments spent watching football and basketball with her grandchildren, eagerly discussing West Virginia University games. She would always call Darius to ask the time of not WVU, BUT she would say West Virginia U. She found delight in playing dominos and watching Tyler Perry plays with her granddaughter, DaSheya, and was a devoted fan of game shows, especially Family Feud. Known for her quiet spirit that spoke volumes, Ruth was a beacon of love and generosity. Her home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, warmth, and the joy of family gatherings. Ruth's kindness and willingness to help others left an indelible mark on all who knew her. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Ruth's caregivers, Dorletta Hairston, Tanya Freeman, Bambi Rodriguez, Lisa Smith, Sandy Pates, and the hospice staff, Valerie and Lynn, along with Right At Home Care Services, for their compassionate care. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on September 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Abundant Life Ministries, located at 1534 Washington Street East, Charleston, WV 25311. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Ruth's memory. Ruth Katherine Jones leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey.
