Ruth E. Resch
December 22, 1927 — October 15, 2026
Ruth E. Resch, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Born on December 22, 1927, in Belleville, NY, Ruth was the cherished daughter of Leon and Emily Mae Reidell. Her life was a testament to devotion and service, characterized by her unwavering commitment to family and community.
Ruth's early years were spent in Theresa, NY, where she began her education before completing her high school studies at LaFargeville Central School, graduating in 1947. It was here that she met the love of her life, Frederick S. Resch, whom she married on May 28, 1948, at the LaFargeville Methodist Church. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and laughter in LaFargeville, NY, where they raised their family and spent the majority of their years.
Ruth's career began at Empsall's Department Store and later at McDonald Jones Insurance Company. Her nurturing spirit and love for children naturally led her to become a daycare provider for several families in LaFargeville, where she left a lasting impact on many young lives.
A pillar of her community, Ruth was actively involved in the Klock-Smith Post 1788 American Legion and Legion Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the LaFargeville PTO. Her dedication to her community was matched by her love for the simple joys in life: gardening, daily walks, and Monday night bowling at the Clayton Bowling Alley. Ruth's life was enriched by her family and friends, with whom she shared countless cherished moments.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Frederick S. Resch, her son, Kevin B. Resch, her brothers, Paul, George, Charlie, Gordon, Sonny, and her sister, Betty. She is survived by her daughter, Janelle J. Longton; her sisters, Velma of Vestal, NY, Doris of Watertown, NY, and Edith of Vancouver, WA; her grandsons, Jonathan Resch (wife Kelly), Micha Resch (SO Brandy), Matthew Resch, and Damian Longton; her great-grandchildren, Jon (wife CJ), Remington, Emma, Elliott, Evan, Zion, Lukas, and Dayanna; and great-great-grandchildren, Blake, Evelyn, Scarlet, and Scout.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Summit Village, where Ruth spent her last years. Their kindness and care were a great comfort to Ruth and her family. The family also thanks Ruth's many friends and relatives for their visits, notes, and cards, which brought joy and connection to her life.
A memorial service celebrating Ruth's life will be held on November 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Omar-Fishers Landing Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Klock-Smith American Legion Post in LaFargeville, NY, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory can be made to the Omar Fishers Landing Church, LaFargeville American Legion Post 1788, and the American Cancer Society.
