Ruth Ann Leadmon Crist
March 13, 1942 — March 11, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ruth Ann Leadmon Crist, lovingly known as "Annie," who departed this world on March 11, 2026, just two days shy of her 84th birthday. Ruth passed peacefully, embraced by the love of her family at their residence in Henderson, Nevada, after a brief illness. Her journey began on March 13, 1942, in the charming town of Hurricane, West Virginia, where she would leave an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Annie was born to Oscar Harvey Gibson and Ruth Bernice Leadmon Gibson, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and a deep love for community. Preceded in death by her devoted husband, Earl Jackson Crist, and her beloved sisters, Janine Taylor Gibson and Joyce Gibson Hodges, Annie's legacy continues through her cherished family.
She is survived by her sons, John J. Crist of Henderson, Nevada, and James "Buzz" Crist of Hurricane, West Virginia. Annie was a proud grandmother to Levano Nicolas Crist, who, alongside his wife Mashia, blessed her with two great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Maxwell Crist. Annie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Annie dedicated 38 years of her life to the students and staff of Connor St. Elementary School in Hurricane, WV, where she served as the beloved school secretary. Her warmth and kindness were felt by all who walked through the school doors. In her later years, Annie found joy as a wedding planner at Lionheart Chateau in Hurricane, where she orchestrated memorable celebrations of love.
A lifelong resident of Hurricane, WV, and a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church, Annie's voice was a gift to the choir and a beacon of hope when she soloed. Her passion for music extended beyond the church; she toured with The Sounds of Bluegrass for a decade, spreading joy throughout Appalachia.
Annie was a woman of great hospitality, known for her ability to make everyone feel welcome and celebrated. Her home was a haven for exchange students from around the world, including Simon, Thomas, Clemons, and David, whom she lovingly hosted through the International Cultural Exchange Services. Her role on the Host Family Advisory Board was a testament to her commitment to cultural understanding and friendship.
Annie's adventurous spirit led her to travel and form lasting bonds with families like the Ljungbergs in Stockholm, Sweden, and the Marzullos in São Paulo, Brazil. Her friendships transcended borders, leaving a global legacy of love and kindness.
A service to honor and celebrate Annie's life will be held on April 16, 2026, at 3:27 PM. Details regarding the location will be announced shortly. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated hospice workers who provided compassionate care in Annie's final days. Special thanks to Paola, who cooked Annie's favorite Green Brazilian Chicken, and Simon, a former exchange student, both of whom visited Annie and shared cherished memories.
In remembrance of Annie, her family invites those who knew her to reflect on the warmth, love, and joy she brought into their lives. Annie's light will forever shine in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to organizations supporting cultural exchange and children's education, causes close to Annie's heart.
May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
