Russell Williams, Jr., a cherished member of the Kotzebue, Alaska community, passed away on June 16, 2026, in Anchorage, Alaska, at the age of 69. Born on April 15, 1957, in Kotzebue, Russell was the beloved son of the late Russell Williams Sr. and Mary Sherman-Williams. He was also lovingly raised by Jack and Ella Jones, who played an integral role in his upbringing. Russell was predeceased by his parents, Russell Williams Sr. and Mary Sherman-Williams, his cherished guardians Jack and Ella Jones, and his siblings Helen, Fannie (Honey), Carrie, Bessie, Robert (Sonny), Henry (Saker), and Lewis (Kanae). He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Mama Alasuk, Ben Sherman, Big Papa Whittier, and Big Mama Edna Wright. He is survived by his devoted son, Russell Williams III, who carries forward his legacy, and his grandchildren, Haileyanna Williams and Marcus Reich, who were the light of his life. Russell is also survived by his siblings, Enoch, Annie Williams, Lydia Honey Williams, and Julia Stalker. He leaves behind his dear cousins, Minnie Kubalack (Girly), Samuel Williams Jr. (Juncy), Edna Williams, Daniel Williams, and Hannah Coffin, along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply. Russell's met Bonnie Nauska, and borned their son, Russell Williams III. A man of many talents and interests, Russell relished the subsistence lifestyle he shared with his cousins at Sealing Point and Sisaulik. starting with oogruk hunting in the spring, berry picking and fishing in the summer, and caribou hunting in the fall. Music was his passion, and he was known for singing and playing the guitar with his family and friends, often outside his parents' home. His love for gospel music was infectious, bringing people together in harmony and joy. Russell's later years were filled with cherished moments spent with his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. He found immense joy in their presence and spoke of them with pride and affection. As his family reflects on his life, they express heartfelt gratitude to all who provided support during this difficult time. Special thanks are extended to NANA, the Borough, KIC, and Maniilaq, as well as Lee Stalker for his contributions to the burial arrangements. Russell Williams, Jr. will forever be remembered for his love of family, his rich musical spirit, and the deep connection he shared with his Alaskan roots. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
