November 28, 1943 — June 12, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Russell G. Hineman, who left this world peacefully on June 12, 2026, at Converse County Hospital. Born on November 28, 1943, in Douglas, Wyoming, Russ lived a life filled with love, service, and laughter.
Russ was the beloved son of the late Gearld Hineman and Tonette Hanson/Hineman. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ward Hineman, and his niece, Peggy Hineman Taylor. His memory will be lovingly carried forward by his surviving family: brothers Allen Hineman, Wes & Margaret Hineman, Dana & Josephine Hineman, and his sister Laura Hineman. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who adored him.
A proud son of Douglas, Wyoming, Russ received his education in his hometown, which laid the foundation for a life dedicated to community and service. Following his graduation, Russ answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Army and spending time stationed in Italy. His service was a testament to his courage and unwavering dedication to the values he held dear.
Upon returning home, Russ embarked on a career in law enforcement with the Douglas Police Department and the Converse County Sheriff Department, roles in which he served with integrity and commitment. Later, he transitioned to working in the oil fields around Douglas, contributing to the industry that fuels his beloved Wyoming.
Russ was a proud member of the American Legion in Douglas, where he found camaraderie and purpose among fellow veterans. His presence in the Legion was marked not only by his dedication but also by his infectious humor and quick wit, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.
Russ found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved playing pool, pitch, and chess, and he was an avid sports fan who never missed a chance to watch a game on TV. His fondness for a good scotch and beer shared with friends at the Legion club reflected his love of companionship and laughter. Russ's adventurous spirit often led him to the casinos in Deadwood, where he relished the thrill of chance and the company of friends.
Those who knew Russ will remember his warm smile and the way he could always lighten the mood with a joke or two. He cultivated a genuine warmth that made people feel comfortable and valued, and his presence enriched the lives of many, especially those he befriended at Riverside Plaza, where he resided happily in his later years.
A service to honor Russ's life will be determined at a later date, where family and friends will gather to pay tribute to a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
