With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Rusell E. Wachtel on October 1, 2026. Born on July 1, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, Rusell was a beloved son to Samuel and Eithel Wachtel, now reunited with them, his cherished wife Judy, and his dear sister Mary. Rusell led a life marked by dedication and love, leaving behind a legacy of strength and loyalty. A graduate of Creston High School, Rusell spent 27 years working on the Illinois Railroad, a testament to his unwavering work ethic. He continued his career in transportation as a private trucker for an additional 30 years, earning the respect and admiration of those he worked with. Rusell's life was filled with the joys of family and shared passions. Married to his beloved Judy for 40 wonderful years, he was a strong, loving father to his daughter Ashley and son Stephen. His grandchildren, Emily and Aaron, were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Though he leaves behind no great-grandchildren, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A man of steadfast character, Rusell was known for his stern yet quietly loving nature. His fierce loyalty to family and friends was a defining trait, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rusell found great joy in watching sports with his family, especially cheering on his favorite teams, the Cubs and the Bears. In honor of Rusell's life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society - Breast Cancer Fund, in memory of his beloved wife, Judy. A private ceremony will be held to honor Rusell's life, respecting the family's wishes for privacy during this difficult time. They kindly ask for your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this profound loss. Rusell E. Wachtel's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
