January 26, 1945 — May 11, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Rufus M. Gant, a cherished father, brother, and friend, who departed this world on May 11, 2026. Rufus was born on January 26, 1945, in Bells, Tennessee, to the late Rufus and Hattie Marie Gant. Throughout his life, Rufus embodied the virtues of love, dedication, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Rufus spent his early years in the nurturing embrace of his family, alongside his siblings—Jimmy, Charlie, Edward, Betty, and Helen—each contributing to the tapestry of love and community that defined their upbringing. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Edna Gant, whose memory he cherished deeply; his son, Ricky Gant; daughter-in-law, Peggy Gant; and granddaughter, Rhonda Michelle Martin. Rufus's legacy of love and strength continues through his surviving family: his devoted daughter Roxie Parker and her husband David, his son Rufus M. Gant II, and his sisters Shirley Blevins, Joyce Drew, and Anita Clements. Rufus's journey of love and partnership began on August 22, 1964, when he married Edna Roxy Jaco in Marks, Mississippi. Together, they moved to Chicago, where they raised their family and built a life filled with happiness and love over 40 remarkable years. In his pursuit of knowledge and skill, Rufus graduated from Triton College in Maywood, Illinois, earning a diploma in machinery operations and various certifications, including an OSHA-certified forklift license. His career spanned an impressive 50 years, primarily in machine shops, culminating in his retirement from Salon Valve Company. A proud member of the United Steelworkers Union, Rufus was not just a dedicated worker but a mentor and friend to many. Rufus was known for his smooth and flirtatious charm, a testament to his gift of gab that endeared him to many. His warmth, humor, and ability to connect with others made him a cherished companion and confidant. Rufus's memory will be honored at a service on May 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM at 323 N 2nd Street, Marks, MS 38646. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and share in the joy and love he brought to those around him. The Gant family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Kimbro Funeral Home, particularly Miss Dawn and her staff, for their kindness, caring support, compassion, and immense patience during this trying time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rufus's memory to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to his generous spirit and enduring legacy.
