In Loving Memory

Rufus A. Hudson
January 1, 1893 — July 24, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Rufus A. Hudson, who departed this life on July 24, 2026, at the remarkable age of 133. Born on January 1, 1893, in Baltimore, Maryland, Rufus lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of joy, love, and warmth that will be cherished forever.
Rufus was born to Tynesha Hudson, who survives him, and is predeceased by his great-grandparents, Preston and Carrie Stewart. He is also survived by his devoted mother, Tynesha; his loving siblings, Brianna and Bacarrie Hudson; his cherished grandmother, Teresa Stewart; and his dear nephews, Pa and Taco Hudson. Though Rufus did not have children of his own, his family extended beyond bloodlines, touching the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
Rufus was known for his insatiable love for life, which was often expressed through his love for food—any food. It was not uncommon to find him snooping around the kitchen, much to the playful chagrin of Tiny, who would often have to shoo him away. His antics didn’t stop there; Rufus had an uncanny ability to enter rooms with or without permission, leaving doors ajar as if to announce his presence. He was a connoisseur of comfort, whether rolling on his back, enjoying rubs, or lounging in the middle of dark rooms, seemingly oblivious to his own pitch-black appearance.
A protector through and through, Rufus watched over his family with the same dedication that he poured into his love for chasing things, blankets, and walks that he determined were never quite long enough. His fondness for pizza was rivaled only by his penchant for drinking from the toilet bowl, ensuring it was empty before anyone else could use it.
Rufus’s heart was as vast as his appetite, and he loved unconditionally. He had an extraordinary ability to read people’s energy, offering comfort and protection to his family, who counted on his gentle presence. His love was palpable, and his spirit was an enduring testament to the joy he found in life and the happiness he spread to those around him.
In memory of Rufus, a special tree will be planted next to his favorite bush in the yard—a living tribute to a life that brought so much joy and warmth. Rufus’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Baltimore City 311 Services and BARCS for their compassionate support during this difficult time.
