Born on April 8, 1968, in San Fernando, Trinidad, Rudy was a beacon of kindness and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. Rudy was the beloved son of Rosabelle Gunness and the late Parrasram Gunness, who predeceased him. He was a devoted brother to Suzette Imanuel, Randy Gunness, Karen Whitmarsh, Guendaline Gunness, and Murrie Diehm. A loving father to his daughter, Emily Gunness, he found great joy and pride in his role as a dad. His family also extended to his cherished nieces and nephews: Sadie, Colleen, Troy, Skylar, Isabella, Luke, Mason, and Charley, who will dearly miss their Uncle Rudy. He began his education at Penal Rock Presbyterian School, laying the foundation for a life rich in both personal and professional achievements. In Trinidad, Rudy honed his skills as a mason, a craft he approached with dedication and precision. His dream of becoming a truck driver, inspired by working alongside his father, brought him to the United States. Here, he realized his ambition by owning and operating his own truck and trucking business, a testament to his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. Rudy was an active member of the Teamsters Union Local 282, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed to his community. Rudy's passions extended beyond his career. He found joy in attending Rebels Cricket Club and engaging in spirited All Fours card games with friends. Known for his curry duck competitions in Trinidad, Rudy's love for cooking brought people together, creating a legacy of warmth and camaraderie. He took immense pride in building his home in Trinidad, a sanctuary for family gatherings and celebrations. Those who knew Rudy will remember him for his compassionate spirit and unwavering generosity. He was a man who would give you the shirt off his back, always there to reach out to friends and family with a quick-witted joke or a heartfelt check-in. His ability to light up a room with his humor and his genuine concern for others will be sorely missed. A service to honor Rudy's life will be held on September 25, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Lieber Funeral Home, located at 266 North Central Ave, Valley Stream, NY 11580. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the remarkable life Rudy led. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rudy's memory to a meaningful cause of your choosing, reflecting his own spirit of generosity and compassion. His legacy of kindness and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
