Rudolph “Rudy” Maes

Rudolph “Rudy” Maes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at his home on March 6, 2026. Born on October 17, 1933, in Denver, Colorado, Rudy was the cherished son of Patsy and Candido Maes.
Rudy's early years were shaped by his service to his country, proudly serving in the Army during the Korean War, a chapter of his life that filled him with pride and humility. After his military service, Rudy embarked on a diverse job path, working in various roles that reflected his hardworking and humble nature. Among his many jobs, Rudy served as a school custodian in San Leandro, California and a maintenance worker at both a cemetery and Walgreens in Oakdale, California, where he touched the lives of many with his gentle spirit, wit and humor.
Rudy married his first love, Leola “Lolly”, in Denver, Colorado. Together, they created a home filled with love, warmth and humor in San Leandro, California, raising their four children: Elaine, Debbie, Barbara, and Rudy. After Lolly's passing in 1992, Rudy married Bertha and became Papa to Bertha’s four grown children and their extended family. Rudy and Bertha moved to Oakdale, California, where they lived for over three decades.
Rudy was a man of deep faith, a longstanding member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oakdale. His devotion was evident in his commitment to his church and community and the warmth he extended to everyone he met. Rudy's life was enriched by his passion for Denver Broncos football, a tradition he joyfully shared with friends and family. He was a man whose life was a testament to love, laughter and unwavering dedication to family and faith.
Rudy's legacy is one of love and laughter. Known for his quick wit and an endless supply of jokes, Rudy brought joy and humor to any gathering. He was a loving and funny man who never missed an opportunity to share a joke, lighting up rooms and hearts alike. His phone calls, birthday and holiday cards, always signed with his signature "Love you 24/7," were treasured by his nieces, nephews, and extended family, keeping them close despite the miles.
Rudy is deeply mourned by his loving family, including his second wife Bertha, his children Elaine (Jim), Debbie (Mike), Barbara, Rudy, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, step children and many nieces and nephews, along with extended family members and countless friends. Preceding him in death are his parents, Patsy and Candido, his brothers Lloyd, Lee, and Bobby Maes, his half-siblings Percilla Pollock, Nap Pollock, James Pollock, Flora Martinez, and George Martinez, and his first wife, Lolly.
The world is less bright without Rudy’s kindness, warmth and loving presence. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of his life will be held at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Hayward, California on June 11, 2026 at 1:00 pm, where family and friends will gather to honor a man whose life was a beautiful tapestry of love, humor, and unwavering faith. Rudy Maes will be greatly missed but never forgotten, living on in the hearts of those he touched with his warmth and love.
