Ruby L. Dowdy Mostaka: A Life of Love and Legacy
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruby L. Dowdy Mostaka, at her home in El Dorado, California, on June 11, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on December 5, 1929, in the charming community of Grandy, North Carolina, Ruby was a beacon of warmth and kindness, whose presence touched the lives of all who knew her.
Ruby was the cherished daughter of Ruth and Eddie Dowdy, who instilled in her the values of love, resilience, and compassion, traits she carried throughout her life. She was also predeceased by her dear sister, Margaret Matthews, and her beloved husband, George J. Mostaka, whose memories she treasured deeply.
Ruby's life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and unwavering devotion. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Josie Beasley of Grandy, North Carolina; Ruth Kelly and her husband, Barry, of Bells Island, North Carolina; Sheila Shattuck of El Dorado, California; Regina Howell and her husband, Daryl, of Tilden, Texas; and Charles Mostaka and his wife, Amy, of Howard, Ohio. Ruby's legacy continues through her cherished sister, Grace Cummins, of Springfield, Illinois.
Her family was her greatest joy and pride, and she leaves behind a remarkable lineage of 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward her spirit of kindness and generosity, a testament to the enduring impact of her life.
Ruby's love for her family was boundless, and her home was a sanctuary of warmth and welcome, where every visitor was greeted with open arms and a heart full of love. Her gentle smile and wise counsel were a comfort to many, and her strength and grace were a source of inspiration.
Though words can scarcely capture the depth of her spirit, Ruby's life was a testament to the power of love and the enduring bonds of family. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched.
A celebration of Ruby's extraordinary life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together and honor the remarkable woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to honor Ruby's memory do so by performing acts of kindness within their own communities, a tribute to her life of compassion and selflessness.
Rest in peace, dear Ruby. Your love and light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew you.
