Ruby Joyce Turner

Ruby Joyce Turner, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully at her home on July 20, 2026. Born on October 12, 1945, in the serene town of Midway, Texas, Ruby’s life was a tapestry woven with love, compassion, and dedication. Ruby was the cherished daughter of Allen Turner and Mary Jane Turner Gilbert and was shaped by the values they instilled in her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers EL and Lee Turner, her son Andre McClain, her daughter Sharlene Williams, and her sister Mary Gilbert. Despite these profound losses, Ruby’s spirit remained resilient and her heart open. Her life was a testament to caring for others, as evidenced by her work as a nurse at Herman Hospital, where she tended to countless patients with grace and empathy. Later in her career, Ruby found joy in connecting with people from all walks of life as a driver for Metro Bus Transportation. These roles not only highlighted her work ethic but also her love for humanity. Ruby leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her surviving family: her children, Shelia McClain (Charles), Alan McClain, and Ronald McClain (Damita); her siblings, Annie Hudson, Ora Dell Gilbert, Cécile, Jessie, and James (Yvette) Gilbert. Her grandchildren, Destinee (Justin), Kylan, Jayden, Dominique, Thomas, Katisha, and Raynard, were the light of her life, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will continue to carry her spirit forward. A service to celebrate Ruby’s remarkable life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 9:00 AM -10:00 AM (VIEWING) 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM ) at Berea Missionary Baptist Church, located at 11507 Homestead Rd., Houston, Texas 77016. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to attend and honor her memory.
