Ruby Jones
December 19, 1933 — May 12, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Ruby Jones, on May 12, 2026, after a brief illness. Ruby was born on December 19, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Margie and Bernice Jerden.
Ruby's life was a testament to the power of resilience and determination. Her journey began in Memphis, where she graduated from Humes High School. Ruby and Johnnie Hampton were married July 12, 1954. During their 17 year marriage Ruby gave birth to six children. In 1972, Ruby began a career in restaurant management, a path that eventually led her to own her own restaurant. Her ability to connect with people and her unwavering work ethic were evident in every endeavor she undertook.
In 1979 embracing change, Ruby transitioned to the retail industry, where she opened The Gift Gallery shops in area Holiday Inns. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her love for her family, particularly her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud.
Ruby was preceded in death by her loving parents, Margie and Bernice Jerden; her siblings, Lois, Alvis, and Dorsey Jerden; her devoted husband of 32 years, Alan Jones; granddaughters, Donna Chandler, Amanda Hampton, and Amy Hampton; and her great-granddaughter, Megan Bramlett. Her legacy is lovingly carried on by her daughters Patty (Jerry) Garey, Jo (Mike) Chandler, and Debby (Roger) Jackson; her sons Johnnie (Ginny) Hampton, Jerry (Jennifer) Hampton and Jimmy Hampton; step-children Margie (Randy) Biffle and Patrick (Sara) Jones; along with her 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Ruby was a woman of simple pleasures, finding joy in shopping trips with her daughters and the companionship of her many pugs, especially Bella, her constant companion who she leaves behind.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who provided love and compassion over the years. Deepest gratitude to DeeDee, Lori, Naomi, Deja, and Lauryn for their unwavering love and devotion. Special thanks to Dr. Joseph Freeman and his staffand to the staff at Amedisys Home Health for their dedication and support during the past few years.
As we bid farewell to Ruby, we do so with hearts full of love and memories that will forever be cherished. Her life was a testimony to kindness, generosity, and an indomitable spirit. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear mother, knowing you were sincerely loved and will be profoundly missed.
