Ruby Blanding Tillmon
September 18, 1951 — October 6, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of Ruby Blanding Tillmon on October 6, 2026. Born on September 18, 1951, in West Columbia, South Carolina, Ruby was a beacon of love and light, whose gentle spirit touched all who knew her.
Ruby was the beloved daughter of the late Viola Blanding. She was predeceased by her brothers Clarence Gibson and Albert Blanding, her sister Elizabeth Artis, and her cherished son, Michael Laron Tillmon. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her husband of 56 years, Bishop Walter Tillmon, Jr., and their sons, Walter Tillmon, Pastor Corey Tillmon (Tammy), and Mark Tillmon (Nicole), and daughter, Tonya Tillmon, all residing in Columbia, SC. Ruby was also a cherished sister to Loretta Romey of Columbia, SC, and Rosa Lee Robinson of Garner, NC. Her love extended deeply to her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry her spirit forward.
Ruby attended Lakeview High School in West Columbia, SC. She dedicated many years to serving in the public school system as a food server, a role she embraced with kindness and care until she chose to devote her time fully to her family. Her nurturing spirit was a guiding force in the lives of her husband and grandchildren.
Ruby found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life: fishing, gardening, and most significantly, ministering through song. Her voice was a powerful testament to her faith, soft-spoken yet resonant, touching the hearts of those who heard her sing. Her devotion to her family and faith was unwavering, and she lived her life as a testament to the love she held for the Lord.
A service to honor Ruby's life will be held on October 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1908 Wilkerson St, Cayce, SC 29033. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Ruby are welcome to join in celebrating her extraordinary life.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Ruby's memory to make a donation to a charity of their choice, reflecting her generous spirit and commitment to serving others.
