Royce & Lawellla von Mosch

February 14, 1949 — February 27, 2026

In loving memory of Royce and Lawella von Mosch, two kindred spirits whose lives were deeply intertwined from their beginnings in Portland and Multnomah, Oregon. Born on February 14, 1949, they shared a journey of love, companionship, and mutual support. Lawella departed this world ahead of Royce on August 2, 2007, due to complications from renal failure, while Royce joined her on February 27, 2026, after facing cardiac arrest and complications from COPD at St. Bernardine Hospital. Royce and Lawella's story began at Grant High School, where they both graduated in 1967. Royce, a proud military brat, answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. His service took him to Vietnam, Japan, and various stateside bases, culminating in an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1978. Lawella embraced her role as a devoted homemaker and mother, crafting a nurturing environment for their family. Their journey led them across the continental United States, eventually settling in San Bernardino, California, where Royce's parents had retired. Royce explored various employment opportunities, always prioritizing the well-being of his family. Both Royce and Lawella were artists in their own right. Royce mastered the art of plastic canvassing, creating hundreds of beautiful pieces, while Lawella’s crocheting skills were nothing short of extraordinary. Royce, affectionately known as Dutch, had a knack for a good joke and enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge on a range of topics. He found comfort in country music and had a fondness for collecting tiger-themed items. Lawella, known as Jean, shared his quiet demeanor and valued a small circle of special friends. Together, they enjoyed relaxing with classic television series, cherishing the simple pleasures of life. Royce is survived by his former spouse, Mrs. Ellen Johnson, his devoted domestic partner, Ms. Kathy Taylor von Mosch, and their children, Sethatina Newman and James von Mosch Johnson. He also leaves behind his stepson, Frederick Mariano Murray, cousin Paul von Mosch and his family, and a host of other relatives and caring neighbors. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in the care and handling of Royce and Lawella's remains, recognizing the grace, understanding, patience, and dignity with which they were treated. In keeping with their wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in honor of Royce and Lawella's love for animals. May their souls find peace and may their love story continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing them.
